Abide Time Blog

 As I was reading in my devotional this morning, this question was asked: "Will you look for satisfaction in creation or in relationship to the Creator?" This got me to thinking. As I look out and see the beautiful sunshine from my office window or if I am driving north and see the mountains so clearly, do I find satisfaction for my soul in the things God has created? Obviously, we should experience God and worship God and thank God for His magnificent creation, but we should never let it overshadow a deep abiding relationship with Him.

Today is Chinese New Year and lots of people in our city will be seeking good luck and happiness and fortune. Many people will seek to give their life to the pursuit of those things. Today, will you give your life to someone instead of something? Will you seek the face of the Creator whose love and grace are the only things that can trully satisfy and transform your mind, heart and soul? Creation was never designed to do this, but the one who Creates is the one who satisfies. Scripture teaches us to run to him for rest. God's Word teaches us that He is the one who can take our heavy burdens and satisfy. None of the hard work you do today will truly satisfy. You should work hard because we are to do all things for the glory of God, but know that at the end of the day when that work is finished, God's grace, mercy, love and so much more is still with you to give you peace and satisfaction.

Take some time and read Jeremiah 10. Pray through that scripture and ask God to meet with you today.

Mission Trip Day 2

It was a long day today. We started off with a delicious breakfast at the hotel. I am very thankful Cambodian food has similar tasting notes to Chinese food. We rode in the van for one hour to get to the Home of Grace orphanage. On the way, there were temples painted in gold, the king’s palace, markets with hanging meat and tropical fruits, herds of skinny white cattle, and much more. We saw the very rich and the very poor. We attended the worship service at the orphanage. A group of ten children led us in songs of praise, including the song Give Thanks in English. I was surprised by the projection of their voices in their little bodies. I shared my testimony and led them in the song Abide with Clarence on the guitar. Garrett preached about the meaning of Jesus’ birth on earth. Then we went to Bati church for another worship service. Clarence shared his testimony, then we led them to sing Amazing Grace. Mission Trip Day 1

Our team had a very long day of travel. We met up with Rusty from Oklahoma at the airport in Vancouver and we began our journey to Phnom Penh. Our flight to Hong Kong was 14 hours long, but we all slept pretty well and made it through that flight. When we arrived in Hong Kong. We met up with some of Clarence and Vienna‘s family members and they showed us all around the city of Hong Kong and we enjoyed some very good dim sum together. Once we arrived in PP our missionary friends picked us up and took us to a very delicious dinner and then we headed to our very nice hotel chatted and prayed and went to bed. Our first day which will be taking place by the time you all read this, we will be having a worship service at 8 AM at the Home of Grace orphanage and then we will have another worship service at 11 AM at Batte Village.
