Towers Church

It has been a couple of days since you have been able to read an update. The past two days have been full. We have left very early from the hotel and have returned late and exhausted. Over the past two days (Tuesday and Wednesday) we travelled to some new unreached, some very remote villages to share our story and share the Gospel. Vienna and Clarence have been sharing their story and stories from God’s Word and Pastor Garrett has been preaching Matthew 6:25-34 in the villages. 62 people in these 5 villages have accepted Christ as their Saviour. Yesterday we drove a very long way into the mountains (pictures attached in this chat) along some very bumpy roads and we saw God save an entire village. The next two days are a little less busy as we prepare for a big party and baptism service on Sunday. Thanks for all your prayers for us!

Today we visited the Killing fields of Cambodia as well as the Tuol Sleng Prison. Prisoners were interrogated, tortured and killed at these locations. This was done out of ignorance, fear, evil, and under the influence of the Khmer Rouge who wanted to create a classless system. They targeted intellectuals and anyone they suspected as the enemy. A fourth of the population was wiped out and the Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng are only two out of hundreds of these execution sites. At the Home of Grace we taught the kids some English. Garrett and Rusty taught the little ones, Vienna the middle aged kids and Clarence taught the older kids from age 12-16. They learned simple phrases and vocabulary like how to introduce themselves, their favorite colour and sports they like to play. It has been eye opening to see what the people of Cambodia have experienced. They have experienced so much destruction and pain; 40 years later the effects still linger. It was a long day today. We started off with a delicious breakfast at the hotel. I am very thankful Cambodian food has similar tasting notes to Chinese food. We rode in the van for one hour to get to the Home of Grace orphanage. On the way, there were temples painted in gold, the king’s palace, markets with hanging meat and tropical fruits, herds of skinny white cattle, and much more. We saw the very rich and the very poor. We attended the worship service at the orphanage. A group of ten children led us in songs of praise, including the song Give Thanks in English. I was surprised by the projection of their voices in their little bodies. I shared my testimony and led them in the song Abide with Clarence on the guitar. Garrett preached about the meaning of Jesus’ birth on earth. Then we went to Bati church for another worship service. Clarence shared his testimony, then we led them to sing Amazing Grace.
